At thirteen, all Kiya wants to do is ride her flying horse and stay away from the arrogant Tor. One fateful day, the crazy, old woman changes everything. Suddenly Kiya is stripped of her vision, her name, her home, and her flying horse. To top it off, the old woman demands she find the lost scroll and the princess of Tamose. Through Kiya's emerging faith, she must learn to survive serf life and see the vision of who she really is.

The Crazy Old Woman

"Whatever you did to me, undo it," I said.

"I don't know if you can hear enough," the crazy old woman said.

"I can. I can."

"Tell me what you've heard since yesterday."

"Neema, my younger sister, bossing me around," I said.

"Is that all?"

"Um..."

"You're still deaf," the old woman said.

"Wait. I heard a tune, in a dream, from a family in Tamose. They were invaded by Sanath. But it was only a dream."

"Are you sure it was only a dream?"

"I don't know. I..."

The old woman touched my forehead again. I jerked my body back. "Don't do anything to me again--just restore my vision."

"I don't know if you're ready. It'll be a different world for you when you see again."

"I am ready," I said.
